New Principal for Phillips Middle School

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools has hired a new principal for Phillips Middle School.

Rydell Harrison joins the district from Guilford County Schools, where he is currently the principal at Hairston Middle School in Greensboro.

Harrison started out as a music teacher in New Jersey, and has 17 years in education. He has also served as a middle school assistant principal and an elementary school principal in Guilford County prior to his current position at Hairston Middle in 2011.

Harrison holds a bachelor of arts degree in Education from Rutgers State University, a master of arts degree in Theology from Duke University and a master of arts degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

"We are thrilled to welcome Rydell Harrison to our Leadership Team," said Superintendent Thomas A. Forcella.  "His passion for the work of educating all children at high levels was visible throughout a very rigorous selection process."
