Board of Education Vacancy

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools congratulates Board member Mia Burroughs on her recent election to the Orange County Board of Commissioners. She has tendered her resignation as a School Board member effective November 30, 2014.

To fill the vacant seat, the Board of Education will appoint a member of the community for the remainder of Ms. Burroughs term, which expires in 2015. Community members interested in applying for this position can click here to view an information packet that includes criteria, relevant policies, a timeline, meeting schedule and the application. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, November 19.

An information session will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 17 at Lincoln Center (750 S. Merritt Mill Road, Chapel Hill) for applicants to learn more about the roles and expectations of the position. On Monday, November 24, at 6 p.m., the Board will hold a special meeting to interview candidates. That meeting will also be at Lincoln Center. The Board is expected to select Ms. Burroughs’ replacement at its December 4 meeting, with the new appointee being sworn in at the December 18 meeting.
