Carrboro High Students Skype Ford CEO

Carrboro High Social Studies teacher Matt Cone and his Global Issues students had a unique opportunity on Tuesday, December 17.  The class enjoyed a Skype dialogue with Alan Mulally.  Alan is the CEO of Ford Motor Company and the subject of a fantastic book, American Icon, that was recommended to students by World Bank President Jim Kim last year.

Mr. Mulally spent approximately 30 minutes talking with the class about a variety of topics, including leadership principles, employee relations, and being a global neighbor.

CHCCS Awarded Green Plus Recertification

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools is the most recent organization to earn Recertification with Green Plus.  One of the earliest adopters of the Green Plus program, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City schools was the first school district in the country to take part and earn Certification through Green Plus.

“Being Green Plus Certified exemplifies the Chapel-Hill Carrboro City School system’s commitment to environmental sustainability and our community,” says Dan Schnitzer, Sustainability Coordinator for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. “It means that we are part of a community of individuals and businesses who are committed to making the world a healthy and verdant place to learn, live and explore.”

The school district incorporates sustainability into each school program, with schools maintaining their own gardens, coordinating recycling programs, and incorporating sustainability into building design. Schnitzer concludes, “being a part of this community sets an example for our students of our collective role in sustaining a healthy planet."
