District Receives Award for Financial Reporting

The Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting award has been presented to Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools by the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).  The Certificate of Excellence represents a significant achievement and reflects the district’s commitment to fiscal integrity and high-quality financial reporting.

The district’s Budget and Finance Department, headed by Ruby Pittman, senior executive director of budget and finance, is the group primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the work of every person on the Budget and Finance Office Team,” said Pittman.  “It takes the work and dedication of all of us bringing varying skill sets together to ensure that district funds are spent appropriately to support the goals of the district.”

“Ms. Pittman and the entire Budget and Finance Team deserve our entire community's appreciation, as they are excellent stewards of the district's financial resources,” said Todd LoFrese, assistant superintendent for support services. “These awards further recognize their effort and success in providing transparent, accountable fiscal control and reporting.”

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

ASBO International is a professional organization serving approximately 5,000 members that provides programs and services to promote the highest standards of school business management practices, professional growth, and the effective use of education resources.  Their office is in Reston, VA.
